Project Open Door (POD), a college access program for urban teens, is housed in the Rhode Island School of Design’s Department of Teaching + Learning in Art + Design.  POD supports not only the artistic development of students attending public high schools in Rhode Island's urban core cities of Central Falls, Pawtucket, Providence, and Woonsocket but also their access to and retention in higher education, increasing their chances to succeed in art and design.  Project Open Door's goals are:

  1. To encourage teens to graduate from high school

  2. To provide underserved teens attending Rhode Island's urban core public and charter high schools with opportunities to develop their artistic skills.

  3. To help prepare teens to enroll in post-secondary education by offering guidance on college selection and preparation of college applications, especially portfolio preparation for art and design college programs.

  4. To provide RISD students with an authentic learning site that serves as a foundation for professional practices that will engage in social justice and community art endeavors.

  5. To provide RISD students, faculty,  staff and alumni a platform for public engagement.
