SABA QIZILBASH EXHIBITS IN DUBAI
Saba Qizilbash, now living and working in Dubai and who graduated in 2004 with her MA in Art + Design Education with a focus on Community Arts Education, is represented in an exhibition entitled Contemporary Art from Pakistan at the cuadro gallery in Dubai. "Saba Qizilbash’s series explores the idea of clothes as a second skin, loaded with cultural, political, social, and even religious connotations. By removing the figurative representation, Saba reinforces the idea that what women wear or are made to wear can become unwanted barnacles that can consume us. A sense of weight is prevalent in the works, as if articles of clothing, as they are added one by one, add heaviness, pulling the figure down. Yet if one were to remove the articles to shed the load, the figure would disappear."
