Just a Few Degrees of Separation!

It amazes me sometimes just how few degrees of separation there are between individuals on this planet. For instance, MA alumna Saba Qizilbash recently posted this photograph of her (front) and Salima Hashmi, a prominent Pakistani painter and former Dean of Pakistan's National College of Art and importantly also a RISD MA (1990) alumna.

What's especially interesting is that Saba was Salima's student at the National College of Art and a graduate student of mine in the MA in Art + Design Education program. Further, Salima and I were both students together at the Bath Academy of Art at Corsham in England and we reconnected in the U.S while I was being interviewed for an assistant professor position at RISD while Salima was at the time concluding her MA studies at RISD - small world indeed!
