TLAD MA Alumna Joins the Barnes Foundation

We are delighted to report that Barbara Wong, MA '95 has accepted the position as Director of Community Engagement at The Barnes Foundation. Barbara will be joining the Foundation after 16-years serving as the highly successful Executive Director of Providence CityArts for Youth, a nationally recognized community‐based arts center with a mission to provide quality arts education free‐of‐charge, to at‐risk urban youth ages 8‐14. CityArts serves over 1,200 youth in daytime artist residencies and out‐of‐school time multi-disciplinary arts programs. Under Barbara's leadership, City Arts' accomplishments include 2014 National Arts and Humanities Youth Program Award by First Lady Michelle Obama and the President’s Committee on the Arts and Humanities; formation of a strategic partnership with the Highlander Charter School and its resulting investment of $7.5M to create an innovative urban education center; and the creation of a unique AmeriCorps Teaching Artist initiative in Providence Public Middle Schools.
