Here is an update from Ruth Lee, MAT '09 who in Fall takes up a new teaching position in Manhattan Beach, California: "I hope TLAD is doing well! I wanted to share a couple of important updates in my life: the first is that I'm a mom of a beautiful 6 month old named Audrey, and second is I got a job! Starting in September I'll be working at Manhattan Academy (www.manhattanacademy.com) as the K-8th art teacher. I'll also be teaching after school classes for Pre-K once a week.
Snow Powers, MAT '12 just e-mailed me to share the great news that after a truly lengthy application process she has secured a full-time art teaching position at Needham High School, MA. Snow's background as a designer made her a great fit for this job, where she will be teaching Digital Media, Animation and Photo 1. It appears to be trending that high schools are looking for art teachers with backgrounds in design, digital media, and photography. #alumni #news
Congratulations to Lauren Scotto, MAT '06 who has just let us know that she has secured a full-time art teaching position at Cumberland High School, Rhode Island. Lauren joins an increasing list of TLAD alumni that are currently teaching in Rhode Island's schools (public and private) and many, we are glad to report, are extraordinarily professional Cooperating Teachers for the Department, supervising MAT student teachers during clinical teaching assignments at both elementary
It's quite remarkable how recently TLAD has been flowing with wonderful news about its alumni getting hired for some really interesting positions and here's another - Katie (Reaves) Fisher, MA '97, who has been doing, among a good number of other things, some extraordinary work for a number of years in film and video work, especially at her daughter's elementary school, has just shared with us that she has been been hired as theFilm and Video Capstone Teacher at Beacon Charte
More great news about a recently graduated alumna - Brittny Bevel, MA '12 has just accepted the position as Museum School Coordinator for the El Paso Museum of Art. Brittny will be in charge of coordinating, running, and evaluating the museum's studio programs for all ages. #alumni #news
It is very evident from MAT '10 Kristin Osiecki's art education website that she has not lost her touch for graphic design - after all, she is a graphic designer! Kristin teaches at Dover Sherborn Regional High School, MA and was most recently a particiapant in an MIT Media Lab ScratchEd workshop. She blogs about it in her personal website. #alumni #news
Rhode Island K-12 art teachers, participating in the recent Teachers' Studio Institute at RISD, felt truly privileged to hear Shahzia Sikander on Thursday, June 28th talk about her creative process during a presentation scheduled specifically for them at RISD's Chace Center. Shahzia's presence at the Institute came about through the special efforts of TLAD faculty member and former Dean of Graduate Studies and Head of Printmaking Nancy Friese. #teachers #news
